Two Halves is about football, sort of…
But, I hope, it will be about much more than that, and touch on the deeper impact this sport has on many lives, including my own.
Who am I?
My name is Mathew Nash and I am a journalist and lapsed football writer from the UK, now based in New Zealand.
I used to be a regular contributor to popular UK football sites like HITC and The Boot Room but now write for my local paper and news site here in picturesque Mount Maunganui.
I cover breaking news, sport, council and pretty much anything that drops into the news desk.
I love my job! But this is a bit of escapism for when I need to get away from stories about rates, bins and traffic.
Why sign up?
Football is a funny old game (pardon another tired cliché) and I think I have a perspective on it that is growing in popularity.
I am disenchanted, disillusioned and disconnected. Possibly due to reasons many of you will agree with and also, I strongly imagine, for reasons you will not agree with.
I hope to provide a few things with this newsletter, including…
Hot takes on what about football today has turned me off the sport
Hotter takes on the things I still love about the game
Some self-commissioned journalistic projects I am passionate about
Interesting personal stories from nearly a decade of writing about football
The odd XI here or there (I like putting these together)
For a full brief on my plans for the newsletter, read my first post. It best describes how I am still 100 per cent in love with football, making the parts I hate resonate with increased impact.
So please, sign up for my mailing list, engage, and enjoy.
Much love.
Mathew.
